R-277   R U S T - R E M O V E R

Brief instructions :
                                  01.01.10
1.) R-277 should not be applied in direct sunlight or during strong wind !
2.) Respect Acid Protection Regulations !
3.) Saturate dry surface with Rust Remover.
Leave on only until the stain has disappeared !
Do not let it dry on the stone surface !
4.) Rinse twice thoroughly using a brush and fresh water.

Characteristic features :
Rust components are reconverted by R-277 Rust Remover into metal compounds, i.e. they resume their original metallic, dark, appearance instead of the reddish brown colour of oxidized metal.
The converted rust components are thus covered with a thin protective coat against further premature rusting, which means that no new rust will appear for many years, if at all.

Processing :
R-277 should not be applied in direct sunlight or during strong wind, or just small areas can be applied where it is possible to cover with PVC-foil or to rinse early.
Completely saturate the dry stone with Rust Remover. On vertical surfaces, the Rust Remover has to be covered (fixed) with a white cloth to ensure a sufficiently long reaction time.
Allow to act until the rust spot has disappeared. This may only take a few minutes, but it may also take several days. In the meantime, the rust spot must be kept moist with the Rust Remover.
The Rust Remover must never be allowed to dry on natural stone, in order to avoid discoloration or larger stains !
Allow the Rust Remover to act on natural stone only for the time needed to remove the rust spot; as soon as it has disappeared, the Rust Remover should immediately be rinsed with water to avoid dark specking.
To rinse the Rust Remover, the surface should be moistened with clean water and brushed thoroughly in order to eliminate any residues of dirt and Rust Remover. Any residual products should first be removed using a cloth or a suction apparatus to avoid further environmental contamination.
The rinsing procedure should be repeated twice.

Post-treatment problems :
If the natural stone surface shows yellow stains after rust removal :
1.) either the surface was not dry before treatment !
2.) or the Rust Remover was not allowed to act for a sufficiently long time
3.) or the Rust Remover was left to dry on the stone surface.
In all these cases, the rust removal treatment has to be started again.

Indications :
In the case of rust spots which are not directly related to iron deposits, but which are due to iron components underneath the natural stone, e.g. steel reinforcements, ferruginous gravel, etc. the origin of the rust has to be eliminated first, or the rust stains will appear again after a few months.
In order to provide maximum protection to granite surfaces, we recommend applying an impregnation treatment after the surface has been allowed to dry for a few days (depending on the humidity level and weather) using I-231 Impregnation.
